WHAT WE DO
We are an online community for women who are suffering after a traumatic brain injury, including those who are experiencing post concussion symptoms. We strive to create real relationships and connections between those who have struggled with life after a brain injury. Our main message is: you are not alone!
All women (18 and older) who have had a TBI and have had lasting symptoms associated with their injury (longer than one month) are encouraged to apply to be a part of our community.
To join one of our support group sessions, just fill out a short application here! Members will be divided into two groups: participants and listeners. This means that you can be a part of our community regardless of where you are in your recovery or your willingness to share your story to others in a video setting.
Meetings will be a supportive place where members can share what obstacles they have overcome, and what specific strategies or activities have helped (or not helped) them throughout their TBI journey. For each meeting there will be a different TBI-related topic, and a moderator will help keep the conversation going and make sure everyone has the opportunity to share.
After the meetings, you can communicate with other members of your session in a private group chat. This is a great place to expand on what was talked about during the meeting, or to vent your frustrations about what you're going through to people who understand. A meeting summary will also be available to all members of the session, which will contain the specific strategies or activities that were mentioned in the meeting so you don't have to remember everything.
Applicants may be put on a waiting list, depending on the amount of applications that are received for each session. We limit the amount of people in each session to ensure everyone has a chance to share and to prevent the meetings from being overwhelming. We plan to start sessions every few months. See our Updates section on our home page (here), follow us on Instagram or Facebook, or subscribe to our mailing list (at the bottom of the page) for up to date information on when the next session(s) will start!
To share and spread knowledge and experiences about navigating life after a traumatic brain injury in a positive and supportive environment through the sharing of each individual’s personal TBI journey
To share those experiences with those who are in need of guidance and emotional support
MEMBERS CAN EITHER BE A PARTICIPANT OR A LISTENER
A participant is someone who has their camera on and can participate in the conversation during the video meetings. Participants can be involved in the conversation as much or as little as they want.
The number of participants that are allowed in each session are limited to promote true connections and reduce overstimulation during meetings.
A listener is someone who is not quite ready to share their story during the video meetings, but would like to listen to the participants’ experiences.
Ideal for those whose injury has been more recent.
All listeners will have their camera off during the video meetings, but will have the opportunity to communicate with all members of their session in a private group chat.
